TheCentenary W e e kwasa great success , and the banquet on the third evening brought together perhaps agather- ing of the best amateur cricketers of the past and present such as has rarely been seen onanyone occasion . Every one whohas the welfare of the gamereally at heart will congratulate the executive of the Marylebone Club on the position it occupies as the fitting rewardof a century's devotionto the best interests of cricket . In all 141 matches-thirteen more than in 1886-were played by M.C.C. in 1887 , and of these only twenty-nine were lost-a proof of the judgment with which the difficult task of providing elevens for such a heavy programmewas managed.
