Cambridge University at Brighton , on June 16, 1,197 runs were scored in the three days for twenty -five wickets .-In one week in June , on the Sussex County Ground, Brighton , in two matches , 1,980 runs were made, and seven centuries obtained in five days . On Monday and Tuesday the Brighton Cricket Club scored 184 runs , and 97 for three wickets ; Brighton College , 502 runs . OnThursday , Friday , and Saturday , Sussex made 451runs, and212 with five wickets down, andCambridgeUniversity 534 runs. These give a grand total of 1,980 runs an average nearly of 400 runs per day. Theseven centuries (quite unprecedented , I believe , in one weekon the same ground) were secured by Mr. G. H. Cotterill (115 ) for Brighton Club ; Messrs . N. C. Cooper (154) and G. L. Wilson (152 ) for Brighton College ; Jesse Hide (115) and Walter Humphreys (117) for Sussex ; and for Cambridge University Mr. W. C. Bridgeman 162 not out , and Mr. L. Martineau 109 runs .-OnJuly 30, in a match between the Alderley Edge and Brooklands Clubs , Messrs . C. Haighand H. A. Forsyth made155 in 55 minutes . Of these , 98 were run out. A tthe finish of match between I Zingari v. Southdown, on July 30, H. F. de Paravicini and F. Thomasgot the 56 runs wanted to win in 16 minutes.- In matchbetween Crystal Palace v. Hampstead, at Crystal Palace , on July 2, 656 runs were got in the day; the average throughout 108 an hour. In a match between Mr. Herbert Pigg's XI. v. Hastings , at Hastings , on September 16, Messrs . E. Matheson and C. J. M. Godfrey madethe last 191 runs in 48 minutes . Shrewsbury scored three successive innings of over a hundred at Lord's-119 for Notts v. Middlesex ; 152 for England v. M.C.C. and Ground, and 130 for Players v. Gentlemen. In one week, early in July, Mr. W. G. Grace scored 422 runs in twofirst -class matches, with twonot outs-31 and116 not out for M.C.C. and Groundv. Cambridge University , and 92 and 183 not out for Glou- cestershire v. Yorkshire . I na match between Axminster v. Crewkerne, at Crew- kerne, onJune 11 , R. L. Gerrish , in the former's first innings , scored 50 not out. Thetotal was52, and, as there were a bye and a leg -bye, he madeall the runs from the bat. I ntwo successive innings for Surrey , Mr. W .W . Readscored 247 v. Lancashire , and 244 not out v. Cambridge University . As far as weknowthis is unequalled in important matches .-On July 9, Wellington (Second X I.) re- quired 52 to beat the Wellington College whenthe last man(C. E. Winter) came in; hemadethe runs in six overs and three balls , scoring altogether 73 not out of 75 for last wicket . His partner only received three balls , one played , one hit for two, and the third bowled.-On June 18, on the Wellington Ground, Wel- lington scored 508 in three hours and a half against Fullands for six wickets -at therate of 145 runs per hour ; H. Fox scored 150 in an hour and a half . Atone time 39 runs were scored in two overs (C. E. Winter 5 fours one over, R. R. Escott 4 fours and 1 three ).-OnAug. 31 , Wellington had 120 to get in anhourand a quarter to beat Tiverton . J. B. Challen and H. T. Hewettmade95 in 25 minutes . Challen at one time made 48 in three overs ; altogether 183 were scored for four wickets . W h e nthe lastjover wasbeing bowled Challen required 10 to complete his century , and he made 2 fours and athree (101 not out ).-On May21 , Bridgwater scored 396 against Independent College in two hours 55 minutes .-OnJuly 8, P. L. KayeandC. D. Hamilton added 282 runs for the second wicket for Mr. H. V. Green's XI. v. Flamingoes . Aug. 22 , K. J. Keyand W. W . Read added 241 for second wicket of Surrey v. Kent, at Oval . Aug. 9, Lee and Hall , 280 for second wicket of Yorkshire v . Lancashire , at Bradford .-Aug. 1, F. M. Atkins (364) and A. Hearne (128 ) for second wicket of Mote Park v. Shorncliffe Camp, at Maid- stone. July 2, F. W. Janson (252) and C. J. M. Fox(237 not out) 331 for second wicket of Crystal Palace v. Hampstead, at Crystal Palace .-June 23, K. J. Key (281 ) and H. Philipson (150 ) 340 for seventh wicket of Oxford University v. Mid- dlesex , at Chiswick Park.-On July 8, Mr. H. V. Green's XI. scored 521 for five wickets v. Flamingoes . The score at one time was 513 for three wickets , P. L. Kaye203 , C. D. Hamilton 102 not out, H.Bury 101. ---- In three successive matches , for two completed innings , and in the course of four days, Mr. E. T. Hirst scored 383 runs for Huddersfield Club-67 not out v. Harrogate , on May28 ; 116 v. Leeds Clarendon, on M a y30, and 200 on May31 v. Leeds Clarendon .-Inmatchbetween
