A good bat, making runs fast whenset ; a little too fond of running out to slow bowling ; an excellent field . COPESTAKE, J. H. A grand hitter , and only wants a little patience to be a really good bat ; a splendid field anywhere. GLENNIE, R. G. (Oxford). A punishing bat when set ; excellent field . HEATH, A. H. (Clifton and Oxford). A good bat, playing in perfect style , and very hard on the off -side ; a good field . S U R R E Y . BOWDEN, M. P. Plays very straight , and can hit whenwanted, but has hardly comeup to expectations formed on his school performances ; a very good field , particularly in the country ; kept wicket well for the County on several occasions . A good all -round cricketer ; bowls round-arm slow , and is a useful change ; a good bat, but fell far short of expectations ; wants to be quickerin the field . CATTLEY, S. W. (Eton). Has good defence ; showed a great advance in his fielding , which wasvery smart ; did not play last year. DOUGLAS, A. P. (Dulwich). A painstaking and careful bat, not without hitting power ; played excellent cricket on the one occasion he was able to play for theCounty; a capital field . HORNER, C. E. (Cheltenham and Oxford). A very useful fast round-arm bowler; moderate bat and field ; only played little last year . LINDSAY, W. (Winchester ). A good bat, with a pretty cut ; a splendid field , and a sure catch ; has not played in first -class cricket of late . READ, W. W. One of the very best batsmen of the day ; plays very straight , and hits all round with great freedom ; played brilliant cricket throughout the summer; a fine field anywhere, and can also keep wicket . Hits well all round, with improved defence ; safe in the field ; one of the best amateur cricketers in England; wasunfortunately unable to play for the County during the latter part of the season owingto illness . SHUTER, J. (Winchester ) . A pretty bat, playing very hard, especially on the off-side ; played consistently well throughout the season ; a splendid field ; akeen cricketer , and has captained the eleven with great success .
