Dobie (7.2) : Bats in an easy style , but is too slow in the field ; fair slow bowler. G .S. Murray(6.5) : Too timid a bat to m a k ebig scores ; fair field ; sometimesbowls well . J. Baldwin (1.3): A nunlucky bat , with a fair style ; one of the best wicket -keepers we have ever had. M. F. Ellis (8.3 ) : Bats in a style peculiar to himself , but scores fairly well ; fields well at point ; should avoid 1 b w. Barsdorf (3) : Muchtoo fond of a swipe ; too slow in the field ; bowls successfully , with a peculiar delivery . Holiday (7.2 ) : Apromising bat, and sharp fielder ; generally scores whenothers fail . W.S. Keeling : Muchtoo timid abat ; has a fair style , and with practice should makebig scores in 1888. W. Fearnley (4) : Apromising bat, with a neat style , but weak in the field . Thompson(1) : Must play with a straight bat ; has been known to bowl ; weak field . Mr. Wethey (33) : Has assisted us in several matches , and still retains hisoldf o r m. C h a t h a mH o u s e, R a m s g a t e.-J. Ferguson (154 ) : A most useful bat,with good style ; plays well forward and uses his wrists ; good field . B. Finlaison (134) : A very con- fident batsman, anda sure run-getter ; bowls mediumleft -hand,with a breakeither w a y; ought todevelopinto a first -class bowler. G. Sandeman(10) : A promisingbat,w h omustmakemore useof his splendid reach; successful bowler, rather over m e d i u m-pace, with high delivery . G. Hodding (92) : A very useful bat whenthe bowling is not on his legs ; fair field and bowler. G. Stacpoole (92) : A fair bat,butlazyfield . C. Jackson(9 4) : Veryuseful cricketer all round . H. Hicks (8) : Beautiful style ; will make a good bat if he refrains from trying to " slog " till he is older andbigger . H. Marley, Capt . (6)):Asteady bowler , with a leg break ; takes great pains , and uses his head ; as a batsman rather disappointing . S. Hicks (5 ) : A fair beginner ; good out-field . A. Blake (4 ): Canbat well , but was too anxious to make runs ; goodstyle . E. B r o w n(44) : Fairleft -handbowler, but no head-work; indifferent defence as abatsman,but a very clean hitter . Clergy O r p h a nSchool, Canterbury.-Matches played , 15; won, 11 ; lost 4.-Е. О. Beauclerk (12): A good and steady bat, though hardly reliable ; very good field whenhechose to exert himself . H. C. Brown(15.7 ) : Bats admirably for his size , with good forward play ; very useful slow change bowler , at times being very effective ; uncertain field , though sometimes brilliant . G. Cuming(27.3 ) : Decidedly above the average of school cricketers ; plays good sound cricket , hitting well to all parts of the field , especially to the off , his cutting being remarkably fine and neat ; magnificent medium-pace left -hand bowler , breaking the ball bothways, andhas shown great improvement in his pace and pitch ; safe catch and field ; has madea very efficient captain (captain for 1888 ). E. G. Evans (9.7) : Goodfast bowler , but should study pitch ; proved himself very useful as a hard hitter towards the end of the season ; verygoodout-field . A. Honliston(2.4) : Goodfield , butpoorbat; mustlearn to play steadier . C. Hulbert (5.11): Straight and steady bat, but should learn to put more energy into his hit- ting; uncertain field . R. E. Hunt(9.8): A really useful bat, and should develop into a very good cricketer ; fields neatly, but has not yet learnt a quick return. A. R. Kessler (13) : Promising bat, and smartfield at slip . P. J. Kirkby (21.10 ): A strong bat, and consistent scorer, cutting hardandwell , but weak on the leg; goodbowler at times; slack in the field . R. Ould (7.6): Very fair bat, but should try to improve his forward play,hits hard to leg ; good field . W. E. Thorpe (11.2 ): Goodbat,but developed a strong affection for " smacking ," embracing every opportunity of putting it into practice ; very fast in " the country ," good catch. A. H.
