Gibson : Did not quite come up to the expecta- tion that wasformed of him last year; was a fair bat, with a pretty cut ; a fair change bowler. V. F. Leese (Capt. for 1888 ) : A good cricketer ; he has a strong defence , but at present is rather cramped in his back play ; is likely to develop fine hitting powers as he gains confidence ; a good field . *W. H. Leese : Plays fast bowling very well , with a free style ; his forward play is excellent ; wantspractice to slow bowling . W. G. Clegg : The best bowler in the eleven , mediumpace, with a high delivery , and can bowl a difficult ball ; a hard and confident hitter , though without muchstyle . J. H. Weatherby : A very safe catch in the deep field ; he would make a very good bat if he watched the ball more, for he has plenty of powerin his wrists , and a good eye . T. B. Case : Hasimproved wonderfully ; a strong defence , with unbounded patience ; one of the mostuseful bats in the team. *E. T. Hill : A good hard hitter , and a very useful bowler ; too slow in the field . V. T. Hill : A promising left -handed bat, with a good style , and plenty of nerve ; a good short -slip , and can bowl abit . B. J. B. Stephens : Avery plucky little wicket -keeper ; quick on the off -side; he takes pains , and maymake a useful bat as he grows stronger . A. H. С. Barker : A first -rate field , being both quick and safe ; his batting would be much better if he kept his right foot firm . *H. B. Debenham : A fair bat, but rather w e a k; a fair fast bowler.
