1 5 0 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' A N N U A L. UPPINGHAMELEVENIN 1887.-*J. F. Whitwell (Captain ) : Agood bat at all points , being able to cut, drive , and hit to leg well , with a good defence ; a good length slow bowler, with high delivery ; quick field anywhere ; was a very good captain last season . *G. McGregor: Keptwicket with most consistent success all through the term; is quite first -class in that department ; useful bat, his hitting and placing on the on side being especially good ; he is a little too fond of pulling straight balls round to the on ; he is also a safe field anywhere ; we hope to hear great things of him at Cambridge next year . A. O. Joy: Avery useful member of the eleven ; played one or two very useful innings ; is rather uncertain at start- ingbutwhenset hits very hard on the off side ; a splendid field anywhere, especi- ally at point . *C. H. Harding : Auseful fast bowler , with high action and alittle breakback, but bowls rather too short ; a m u c hbetter bat thanhis average wouldlead us to suppose ; a fair field . *A. Martineau : Agood slow bowler, with a lot of break fromleg ; did far the most bowling for the eleven ; on his day is extremely hard to play ; he was well backed up by good fielding , and a splendid wicket -keep; useful bat, can drive and hit well to leg, but is rather lacking in defence ; fielded well at short - slip . A. Alderson : Did very well at the beginning of the season , but fell off rather towards the end; bats very straight , cuts , and hits well to leg ; fairly safe in the field , but rather slow . *E. W. Janson : Got into eleven for his bowling , andhas since developed into a very fair bat ; a good mediumpace, with a little break back, keeping agoodlength on the off side ; cuts and hits well on the on side , and has agood defence ; fair field . P. H. Beisiegel : Attimes a very useful bat , as he can hit very hard all round ; very uncertain at starting ; played several useful innings ; fair ground field , but not a sure catch . E. Castle : Afair bat ; plays very correct cricket , andhas good defence ,butcan- not punish bad balls enough; a painstaking field , in which department he has muchimproved. *H. W. Burness : Asplendid field at cover -point , with quick return ; safe catch ; a fair bat , at times cuts and drives well . C. A. P. Wolfer- stan : A fair bat, with considerable hitting powers, but does not play very straight ; useful slow left -handbowler , and fair field . W E L L I N G T O N C O L L E G E .
