R. Farrant (Captain ) : A capital all -round cricketer , much improved in batting ; at times bowled with great effect , but towards the end of the season lost muchof his precision ; quick and safe in the field . A. B. Burney : One of the most useful members of the team; much improved in fielding , and on slow grounds a successful bowler ; scored fairly , butshoweda great lack of dash, due mainly to wantof energetic practice . L. C. H. Palairet : On a good fast wicket can play first -rate cricket ; must learn to watch the ball more closely ; not a safe catch . *W. K. Fernie : Is a very safe catch in anypart of the field ; played one or two useful innings , but on the whole was very disappointing . *J. H. Smith : Worked very hard, and im- proved very much in all departments of the game ; has a really good defence .
