Wood: A nexcellent m a nto send in first ; plays with great patience andjudgment, and has scored more consistently than any one else in the eleven ; whenset , drives well on either side ; a safe and energetic field . H .H. Hansard: Plays better cricket than any one else , though not the most dangerous bat; has greatly improved in his back play ; with experience ought tomakea first -rate bat ; a capital field anywhere, though he at times misses easyballs . St. L. Lea: Has proved invaluable behind the wickets , rarely letting a ball pass him; has learnt to play with a straight bat, and madea lot of runs for his side ; a most useful memberof the eleven . A. J. Mitchell : Has proved a dangerous bowler on the hard wickets ; has got more commandover the ball , andon several occasions proved most serviceable ; has improved as a bat, and madesome useful stands ; his cricket all round is greatly handicapped by his being shortsighted . E. S. C. Hobson : Has not come on as a batsman as much as was expected , but played an excellent innings against Repton; plays hard on theball , but muststand up to his wickets better ; whenbowling , must learn not to lose heart ; has got good commandoverthe ball , and often sends downa very hot one ; is at times listless , and wanting in energy in the field . H. S. Ainslie : H a snot scored as muchas he ought to have done ; bats in excellent style , but ought to watch the ball better ; tries to hit length balls too much; a good point . R. M. Harvey: A keen cricketer , whose interest never flags ; a steady and reliable bat, andhas played one invaluable innings ; his form is cramped, but he watches the ball , and plays straight ; at times brilliant in the field , and is always wherehe is wanted. C. G. Wotherspoon : Wantsa sticky wicket for his bowling ; keeps a good length , and gets a fair amount of spin on the ball ; is improving as a bat ; in the field is slow , and at times wanting in enthusiasm .
