Schwann : Is a most patient bat, with very good defence , and a brilliant cut ; he set an excellent example to the eleven , both with the bat and in the field ; he is a thoroughly hard -working cricketer . *K. F. Crawford : Avery steady and good bat, with strong defence , anda good field . *E. Smith: Has the making of a first -rate cricketer in him, butwantspatience ; he is a strong and free bat, and drives very well ; a good fast bowler, with spin andbreak, and a good field . *L. G. Thomas : Is a fine hitter , especially to leg, but weak in defence ; an erratic , though sometimes successful , fast bowler, and a good field far out. H. N. Wethered : W a svery successful with the ball at the beginning of the season ; was afterwards dis- abled by a sprained wrist ; he bowls a goodlength , andgets up awkwardly; not agood bat yet, and wants quickness in the field , especially to his ownbowling. *G. R. C. Hyde- Smith : Beganwell in batting , butfell off later in the season ; hasplenty of confidence ; often fell a victim to an attempt to pull a straight ball to square leg ; an erratic bowler, and moderate field . *W. R. Ford: Is a fine hitter , but without muchjudgment , and a good field at a distance from the wicket. W. H. Brain : Kept wicket with considerable success , but was dis- abled for some part of the season ; improved greatly as a bat, but trusts too muchto forward play, and does not watch the ball enough. B. F. Hanson: Shows promise ; has correct style , and ought to make a good bat ; fields very well far out , and might make a wicket -keeper . B. W.Bradford : Bats moderately ; bowls left -handed very steadily , keeps a good length , and was successful at the end of the season ; fields very well . J. C. Orr : Bats vigorously , but must take moretrouble and paymoreattention to coaching , if he is to become good; bowls with his head, but is erratic in pitch ; lively anddashing in the field .
