Cochrane (Captain , 1887) : Well knownin University cricket , but prevented by an injury from playing against Cambridgethis year ; effective bowler, and run-getting college bat. R. C. Guy: Thoroughly good batsman , usually good for runs ; first -rate field , and sure catch (Captain , 1888 ). H. E. Philcox : Has the highest average for the season ; bats very steadily , and is difficult to get out ; useful wicket -keeper . H. H. Brown: Hits hard, and usually with success ; trusts to the eye ; runs admirably after the ball in the country . F. W. Farrant : Most valuable college bowler , with puzzling action ; fair field , and moderate bat . T. A. White : Weighs and scores heavily ; safe field , but takes time to stoop . A. M. Woodard: Fair bats- m a n'; splendid field , and certain catch . T. W. Cook : Disappointing cricketer ; plays in nice style , but not near the ball ; good field , and bad bowler. F. W. Waldock : Hard, but horizontal , hitter ; fast , but easy , bowler ; good field . J. W. Aris : Guileless slow bowler ; gets wickets through his simplicity ; stalwart bat. W. Bury: Deals in long hops and full pitches as a bowler ; sometimes bowls agood one ; fair bat . C. Philcox : Plays with considerable dash , and is a keen cricketer ; must take pains .
