Brain (Clifton and Oriel ) : A very good captain , though he fell off in his batting owing to being somewhatout of health ; drives and cuts well ; a splendid field anywhere ; can keep wicket . Е. H. Buckland (Marlborough and New) : Wasin very good form , and batted and bowled consistently well throughout the season ; a good right -handed medium- pace bowler, and dashing bat ; keen and active field . A. H. J. Cochrane (Rep- ton and Hertford ) : Agood fast left -handed bowler , coming in a lot with his arm; disappointing bat ; moderate field ; unfortunately strained himself , so was unable to play against Cambridge . H. W. Forster (Eton and New) : A good , steady bat; bowls well , medium-pace left -hand; excellent field , andsafe catch . F. H. Gresson (Winchester and Oriel ) : A very good left -handed batsman ; did extraordinarily well in the early part of the season at Oxford ; useful as a change bowler, and fair field . K. J. Key(Clifton and Oriel ) : Amagnificent batsman, with very strong defence , watching the ball well , and hitting with great power, "pulls " a short ball better than any one ; atower of strength both to his University and County; has become a safe field . E.A. Nepean (Sherborne and University ) : W a smostsuccessful throughout the season with his slow bowling , makes the ball curl tremendously from leg , varied with an occasional breakback ; good, steady bat, and fair field . H. Philipson (Eton and New) : A very fine wicket- keeper , taking the ball exceedingly close to the wickets , especially smart at stumping ; a very dangerous bat, though he takes great liberties . W. Rashleigh (Tonbridge and Brasenose ) : A thoroughly sound and good bat, with strong
