Hav- ing wonthe toss , they compiled the capital total of 254 , Bean being chief scorer with a very fine innings of 105 not out. Mr. Dudneyand he put on 87 runs while together , the latter hitting very hard for 42. Mr. G. L. Wilson (a young Australian from Brighton College ) made his début in this match , showing good promise with a useful contribution of 24 in the first innings , followed up by anexcellent 58 in his second attempt . Yorkshire managed to head their oppo- nents by 50-a result mainly due to a well -played innings of 91 from Peel , and ameritorious display by Dentonfor 59. Thevisitors did not fare so well in their second innings , as Ulyett and the veteran Tom Emmett disposed of them for a total of 188 runs , Mr. Wilson's 58 being decidedly the feature of the innings . Requiring 139 runs to win, Yorkshire commenced as usual with Hall and Ulyett , andso well did they play, that they were able to wipe off the required number. Ulyett hit most brilliantly for his 111 runs . Sussex , 254 and 188 ; total , 442 . Yorkshire , 304 and 142 (no wicket); total , 446. (2) Sussex υ. Yorkshire. Brighton , August 15, 16, and 17.
