AFTERan actually unbeaten record in inter -county matches for two successive seasons Notts had to yield the pride of place to others . Altogether it will , we think, be generally admitted it was not represented by as formidable a com- bination in 1887 as in the two years immediately preceding . Inbatting there waslittle or no deterioration . In Shrewsbury the county hadthe most success- ful batsmanof the year, and Barnes and Gunnhad few superiors as run-getters in important fixtures . Scotton , Mr. Dixon, Mr. H. B. Daft, and Flowers were all generally reliable scorers , and there washardly anything of a tail to the eleven . Inbowling, though , there was a distinct falling off , and on the hard wickets pre- valent during 1887 there was nothing like the old sting in the attack . Though in Richardson Notts introduced a new bowler likely to be of use , the out cricket of Notts was below the old standard . On a true pitch most of the bowling was fairly easy , and in addition there was a lack of dash in the fielding , which at times was susceptible of great improvement. Resultsof M a t c h e s.
