Briggs was the highest scorer with 25 out of the small total of 129 runs . Yorkshire , on the contrary , were in great batting form, and, aided with a wet wicket on the second day, accounted for a total of 414runs. Of these , Mr. Hawkemade 125 by brilliant cricket , and he was ably supported by Peel (66 ), Hall (62), Lee (57), and Ulyett (44). At one time, in Lancashire's second innings , it seemed as if the total would not reach that of their first , as six wickets were downfor 64 runs. Robinson, however, coming to the rescue of his county, by resolute hitting scored 92 runs , and the three other remaining wickets backing himup well , the respectable total of 246 was reached . Yorkshire won by an innings and 39 runs . Lancashire , 129 and 246; total , 375. Yorkshire , 414. (10) Lancashire v. Oxford University. Liverpool , June 20, 21, and 22. After having to follow on in a minority of 109, Lancashire scored a most creditable victory by no less than 117 runs . T h e University , winning the toss , put together the good total of 273 runs , Mr. Ricketts hitting very hard for 92. The county only totalled 164 , Mr. Nepean, who bowled with great success , taking six wickets for 16 runs . Following on, though, they fared much better , and getting the length of the University bowling , secured 284-Mr. H. B. Steel (67), Briggs (63), Mr. Jowett (58), Barlow (53). Oxford required 176 to win, butBriggs andWatsondisposed of them in a most summarymannerfor the insignificant total of 58 runs . Oxford, 273 and 58 ; total , 331.
