Theill -fortune which has followed the Countyduring the last fewyears has too apparently not exhausted itself , to judge by the records of last year . The seces- sion of Shacklock to Notts , the county of his residence , deprived the Derbyshire eleven of a fast bowler whohad done them good service , and the sympathy of the public generally was with the Derbyshire executive in this loss . Two vic- tories over Essex were the only successes which attended the County eleven in 1886 ; with the exception of a by no means favourable drawin the first match with Lancashire , all the principal engagements ended disastrously . At the same timeit mustbe stated that the defeat by Gloucestershire was a narrow one, and credit should be given to the eleven for a plucky fight against the Australians . In Davidson Derbyshire introduced last year a youngster likely to develop into a fiery , useful all-round cricketer . His bowling on several occasions was attended w i t hm a r k e dsuccess.
