Scored 100 for South against North at Lord's in 1865. Playing for England against Surrey at Oval, 1863, in one over he got three wickets , besides one run out. Diedat Shorne , near Gravesend, on August 16. BLAMIRES, E . -Aprofessional cricketer , who did good service as a bowler for Surrey in 1880 and 1881. Wasa Yorkshireman by birth . Died in April . BROOKE, FRANCIS CAPPER (Harrow and Oxford). W a s connected with Harrowcricket in the earliest days of the Eton and Harrowmatch. Died on January 13. Aged75. CHATTERTON, JOSEPH.-Died of typhoid fever , November7. Aged20. A young professional of great promise . Did good service for Derbyshire at times in 1886. His early death will be a loss to the County. CHICHESTER, EARL OF. Played for the M.C.C. as far back as 1827. His three sons have all figured prominently in the cricket -field . The Hon. F. G. Pelhamwas in the Eton X I. of 1864 , and captained the Cambridge University in 1866-67 . The Hon. T. H. W ., a good footballer withal , played for Eton in 1866 , and the Hon. A. L. was a conspicuous athlete , and is nowVice-President of the Sussex CountyCricket Club. Diedin March. C O B B, A R T H U R HODES.-W a scaptain of the WinchesterX I. in 1883. Played for Oxford against Cambridge last season at Lord's , whenhe scored 50 runs in the first innings , andkept wicket remarkably well . Hewas a member of Mr. E. J. Sanders ' team of amateurs in both 1885 and 1886. Died of typhoid fevero nN o v e m b e r6. DALKEITH, EARL OF (Eton and Oxford). Accidentally shot himself while deer -stalking on September 18, in his 26th year. Better knownin cricket circles as Lord Eskdaill . Avery keen and generous supporter of the game. His early death will be a great loss to Scottish cricket . GILLETT, J. H.-A cricket reporter on the staff of The Sportsman . W a s stabbed at a Sheffield hotel , and died in the hospital there onApril 17. HANKEY, REGINALD (Harrow).-W a sin the Harrow X I. of 1849 , and played subsequently a few times for Surrey. Scored 70 runs in three - quarters of anhour for the Gentlemen against the Players at Lord's in 1857 ; a fine bat, andgoodfield . Bowledslow round-arm. Died at Brighton onAugust25. HOBGEN, ARTHUR.-Wellknown in Sussex cricketing circles , more especially in his native place , Chichester . W a sone of the promoters of James Lillywhite's teamwhich visited Australia in 1876-77 . W a s at different times Cricket Editor of Bells ' Life , Sub-Editor of The Sportsman , and Editor of Land and Water. Died onApril 26. M E Y R I C K, LEWISO S W A L D.--Drownedin the C a mon March21. T h emost promising public school cricketer of 1885. H e had an average of 102 for Marlborough in his three matches against Rugby. His future at Cambridge University wasconsidered to be of great promise .
