One of the best judges of the game; a fine bat, playing in excellent style , and hitting with great freedom ; when able to play last season was in as good form as ever , as his average for Kent clearly shows. HINE-HAYCOCк, Т. R. (Wellington and Oxford). Asteady bat, and good field ; w a snot so successful last season. JONES, R. S. (Cambridge). A n excellent bat, with great defence ; a good out- field , and safe catch ; played seldom last season . KEMP, М. С. (Harrow and Oxford ) . Agood bat , and first -class wicket -keeper ; of great assistance in 1886 ; his keeping in the Australian match in parti- cularw a sbrilliant. MARCHANT, F. (Etonand Cambridge). A good bat and field ; improved won- derfully in his play, and came quite up to earlier anticipations formed of h i m. PATTERSON , W. H. (Harrow and Oxford ) . A very fine defensive bat ; good field ; canbowl a little ; wasagain of the greatest assistance to the County. RASHLEIGH , W. (Tonbridge ). Bats with great defence , but must pay more attention to fielding ; was of great assistance to both Kent and Oxford ; his 107 for Oxford against Cambridge was a very fine display of batting.f STREATFIELD, A. M. (Charterhouse ). A goodbat, particularly on a fast wicket ; with care and patience mayprove of assistance to his County ; a good field. THORNTON, A. J. (Winchester and Oxford ). Asteady bat , and good lob bowler , thoughnot very successful with his bowling in the County matches . THORNTON, Rev. R. T. (Oxford ). Bats in peculiar form , but a difficult wicket toget; good field , and very keen cricketer . TONGE, J. N. (Cheltenham ). A careful bat, with good defence ; a safe field , andvery fair bowler ; did not train on as muchas expected last season . WILSON, C. (Cambridge ). One of the best gentleman bats of the day. He un- fortunately is able to play but seldom . WILSON, L. Fine free bat, and good field ; a good all-round cricketer ; was very successful last season in bothfirst -class andminormatches. L A N C A S H I R E . DOBELL, P. (Cambridge ). Ayoung and improving player ; bats in good form , andfields well. ECCLES , J. A great addition to the County ; a very good bat indeed , and capital field . ECCLESH. (Uppingham). Did not play for his Countylast season ; a good bat , a n dexcellentfield. HAIGH, C. H. Agood batsman andfield ; drives and hits to leg well. HILDYARD, L. D. (Oxford University ). Another player whose services were not obtained last season ; a very good batsman, and capital field at point . HORNBY, A. N. (Harrow). Played quite in his old form last season , and still maintains his position both as a fine batsman and field ; is also an excellent captain. KEMBLE, A. T. (Cheltenham ). Agood bat, and capital wicket -keeper . KEMP, G. (Shrewsbury and Cambridge ). An excellent batsman ; bats in a very good form , his wrist play being particularly fine . Only able to play little last season. LANCASHIRE, O. P. (Rossall and Cambridge). Is not so successful as could be wished; plays in good form, anddrives well to the off ; good field . Moss, C. H. Ayoung player of promise ; canbat andbowlwell. ROPER, E. (Clifton ). Agood bat, and fair change bowler . ROYLE, Rev. V. (Rossall and Oxford ). Does not assist his County so much as formerly ; is still a good bat, and scores fast when set ; splendid field at cover-point.
