R u d d: A steady bat, with good defensive powers whenhe likes , but hardly did himselfjustice this season, chiefly fromtrying to place balls onthe leg side ; a goodfield . R. M. King : The most reliable batsman in the eleven , and plays with great care and patience ; hits to leg and cuts well , but should learn to play harder forward ; is a sure catch and good field . J. Story : A useful wicket -keeper standing back; a fair bat on a fast wicket . P. J. Baker: Bowls fast and straight , with a high action , and met with great success ; as a batsman , plays hard forward and drives well, but his back play is rather weak. F. C. Barchard : Scored well at the beginning of the season , but did not do muchlater ; hit well at times , and with morepatience would make a good bat ; fair bowler , but rather slow in the field . L. L. Reid : Apromising acquisition to the team; is a useful right -hand bowler ,rather above medium-pace , andcan keep straight and a good length ; has a tendency to put straight balls to leg , but gives promise ofgood defence , combined with plenty of hitting power. W. F. Oldham : Afair bat, butrather stiff , anddoes not makethe best use of his long reach; is a goodfield . H. G. В. Reina : Improved as a batsman, and plays with a good straight bat, though inclined to leave his ground too much; a very uncertain field . J. S. Mallam: A brilliant and very quick field ; hits well at times ,but lacks defence . C. C. Hatt: Bats in good, free style when once set , though rather uncertain at first ; is an excellent field , and a somewhat erratic change bowler . R. L. Aston : Auseful bat at the end of an innings , and often difficult to dislodge , though rather wanting in style ; might have been a useful bowler had he not strained himself ; a very good field at point , and a safe catch anywhere.
