Ladell (14.2 ) : A very straight and steady bat, being very useful for going in first ; and having played some very goodinnings whenhe has done so ; a good field anywhere . A. M. Evanson (12.3 ): A good bat, hitting very clean and hard, andpunishing loose bowling severely ; bowls fast round, but is sometimes inclined to be erratic . C. J. B. Marriott (27.3 ) : The best bat in the eleven , with agood defence , and plays fast bowling very well , hits beautifully on the on side , and has played some good innings -notably his 93 v. Chiswick Park; a süre but slow field . P. Tootell (11.5 ): Amostpatient bat, and invaluable for going in first , cuts well at times ; a good field at point . C. L. A. Kennett (14.6 ) : Wassecond in the batting averages , and has improved wonderfully ; a verypretty bat, his wrist play being very good, hits hard on the off side ,and has a remarkably gooddefence ; as a bowler fell off rather since last season . Lucаз (13.7 ) : Didnot quite fulfil expectations as a wicket -keep, but bowled very well at the latter end of the season ; as a bat he has a style of his own, which is decidedly ugly , andhe mustget over it if heis to shine in that department . Mathew(13.9 ): Agood slow bowler , with a good deal of break from the off , anda very dangerous manwhen the wicket helps him atall ; as a bat he has played one or two good innings, but is rather apt to hit too m u c h. (Colours , 1886. ) A. F. Simond (5.5 ): Has improved wonderfully in batting , and although his average was low, his form was always good; cuts very well at times , but lacks physique ; has bowled at times ; asplendid field at cover . (Colours , 1886. ) A. B. Catelin (6.9 ) : Avery straight bat, and a very difficult manto get rid of; considering his short knowledge of the gamehe has played very well , his cutting especially being very fine ; a beautiful field far out, his returns to thewicket being excellent ; obtained the fielding prize . (Colours , 1886. ) J. Scrymgeour (6.4 ) : Avery promising bat, though his style is rather cramped; will make a bowler next season , having a very difficult length to play ; a very good field at short-slip . (Colours , 1886. ) C. W. H. Braun, Captain (10.4 ) : Anda good one in every way; improved wonderfully in batting , hitting clean andhard to the off ; as a bowler was of great service to the team, though not quite so successful as in 1885 ; has nowleft and gone to Cambridge; his loss will be greatly felt , and his like will be hard to find . (Colours , 1881. ) M a s o n i cCollege,W o o dG r e e n.-W.Southam, Captain : Afast round-armbowler ; active in the field ; a good bat, with very pretty style . A. T. Haworth: Avery steady and sure bat,nearly always makes runs ; bowls well occasionally ; can also take the wickets . H. Knott : Avery steady and straight bat,does not often fail to score ; bowls medium-pace round-arm. R .F. Reynolds: Is a very goodandsharp wicket-keeper, stands upwell to all kindsof bowling; also a very goodbat. F. Thomas: A splendid bat,has good hitting powers ; a very good catch , especially at point . J. B. Green : Muchimproved in batting during the latter part of the season ; good catch in long field . F. C. Cairney : Goodbat, and sure catch ,but not very quick in the field . T. Allison: A really goodfast bowler, and sometimesscores well, especially against loose bowling . A. K. Bowes : A splendid long -stop ; can also bat very well . A. High: Ratherlazy in thefield , but canbat verywell at times. W. Clarke : Bats very well for his size, andcanbowlm e d i u mpace, andis a sure catch in long field . Norfolk CountySchool. THE ELEVEN IN 1886.-W. G. Walker , Captain (8.5): Madea very good captain ; never scrupled to turn out a weak m a nand try some one else ; a useful bat, and an excellent field at point . E. N. d'Ade (22.3 ) : Avery promising bat, having both a gooddefence andalso punishing power. J. W. Smith (8.6 ) : Did not meet with his usual success; a good, steady bat, and useful behindthe wicket. E. W. Pope(7.8) : H a sbeenvery useful to his eleven , and plays in good form, but is too easily tempted byahalf-volley ; a quick field ,but fell off towards the end of the season . J. A. Slater (7.4 ) : Animproving bat, but an uncertain field . J. F. Turner(5.7) : A destructive bowler, andwas invaluable to his eleven in this capacity ; has the making of a good bat in him. H. T. Shaw(5.4) : Put in the eleven towards the end of the season ; a very steady bat, and a quick field ; has the making of a good cricketer in him. L. P. Tomlinson (5.2 ) : A careful bat , but had a run of ill luck ; was of great service to his eleven as aback-stop . F. E. Jones (4.5 ) : Improved greatly towards the close of the season in batting ; a sluggish field , anda useful change bowler . J. Murray (3.9 ): A promis- ing young batsman, playing forward very prettily ; will be a useful mannext year ; rather careless in thefield . S.
