Gurney (5.5 ) : Batting muchimproved ; a safe catch , and useful anywhere in the field , especially at long -stop . E. R. Gurney (19.3 ) : His patience whenbatting has been mostcommendable, plays in goodstyle , but wantsmorefreedomstill , thoughm u c himproved inthis respect latterly ; has failed as a bowler, andto someextent as a field . D. A. Nicholl (1.1) : An energetic cricketer , and gives promise of making a good bat ; a fairly good field , and astraight but not killing bowler. J. J. Savery (44.7): Amagnificent bat, as his average will prove , hitting hard, and with sound defence ; has played such consistently sterling cricket as to cause his being chosen to play for his county,bats inavery free style ; is a very good bowler , with break from off , and is a brilliant field anywhere . W .Bartlett (32.2): Averyhard-hitting bat, hasbeenvery successful in this departmentof the game, as his good average shows ; very good medium-paced bowler , and sure catch ; has also played for his county this season . T. Wood(20.5 ): Bats in pretty style , his placing to leg is very neat, has been a very consistent scorer ; a first -rate wicket -keeper , and a fair change bowler. W. E. Wood(13) : Has developed into a steady bat, and has played some useful innings ; a dangerous rather -fast bowler , in which capacity he has been of great use. Gregson(11.2) : Shouldmakea fine bat if he wentin a little less for hitting anda little morefor defensive play ; a very good field . S. C. Clements (8.6 ) : A very steady bat, though a bit un- certain ; rather slow in the field ,but good catch . A. A. Linton (8.4) : Bats remarkably well for his size, andwill becomea first -class batsman; fair changebowler; somewhatslow in the field . F. W. Lea(8.1): Acareful bat, though not so successful as in former seasons ; good field , and c a nbowlw h e nrequired. S. C. Goodman(7.6) : Themostsuccessful bowlerin theteam, hasa splendid average , and has done many good performances with the ball ; bats steadily , though rather uncertain ; fine field at slip . J. G. Loveday (5.3 ): Invaluable in keeping a team together , and, thoughhehas not metwiththe samesuccess that hashitherto attendedhim, his absence wouldcreate a gap difficult to be filled . A. E. Davies , Captain : Agood, steady bat,with plenty of defence , andfair hitting powers , though rather wanting in style ; has bowled fast underhand with great success during the latter part of the season . V. Thompson : Oneof the best bats in the eleven , has good defence , and hits well on both sides of the wicket ; hasrather fallen off in his bowling; a verygoodfield . H. E. Henderson: H a sbeendisap- pointing as a bat, but has bowled consistently well throughout the season ; a good field . H.E. Boultbee : Has fallen off considerably , not batting nearly so well as in previous years ; an excellent field and safe catch , and has proved a most valuable long-stop . H. Hutchinson : Has fair defence , but plays too lazily ; only a moderate field . W. J. Robinson : Ought to make a good bat; hits hard,but is rather given to pulling across ; a poor field . D. Seaton : Hits hard , andcan punish loose bowling , but has not muchdefence ; a fair bowler , andgoodfield . A. W. Smith : A fair bat,but rather uncertain ; agood medium-pace bowler ,and fair field . H.Hodson : Promises well , and ought to make a good bat whenhe gets stronger ; as a bowler , too, he shows some promise ; a bad field . J. B. Seaton : Hits fairly hard, but has not muchidea of keep- ing hiswicket up; a good field . H. S. Atkinson : Has taken the wickets well at times , but as abat wants a lot of practice . G. Newton : Has played in a few matches, but has not been very successful ; a fair but rather slow field .
