Fleming (Captain ) : A n energetic captain ; a good sound bat, with strong driving powers ; a capital field ,andfair bowler. M. R. Jardine : A first -rate bat, with strong defence , but hardly makes the most of a loose one ; kept wicket well . *D. L. M'Ewen: Utterly failed to maintain his promising form of the former year ; a poor bat, falling either into the extremes of poking or slogging ; fair field at point . J. L. Jamieson : Plays in a style peculiar to himself , but has a stubborn defence combined with hitting powers . H. R. Jardine : Adashing bat , with little or no defence ; a good field , and useful straight bowler . *D. Landale : Plays in nice style , generally forward ; no good against slows . *W. B. Steel : Avery correct bat, at present wants hitting powers ; fair medium bowler , with nice action , but too simple . J. L. Greig : Fast slinging bowler , somewhat unreliable ; as a bat , hits well , but has no defence . *A. Methuen : Much improved in batting , though still too stiff ; brilliant field ; slow overhand bowler , with high delivery . 4. G. H. Carruthers : a good bowler , with nice break -back , and occasionally varying his pace ; not always to be relied on; poor bat, though he shows signs of improve- ment. J. F.
