Harrison (Capt .) : A painstaking captain ; kept the team well together ; a pretty and effective bat, his cutting anddriving onthe off being very good ; a good fast bowler, with plenty of spin ; wouldhave scored more freely if he had been in good health . *C. Gibson : Most disappointing in his batting ; a good bowler , with big break from the off ; a safe field . C. A. Sherring : Throughoverwork his batting was not up to the form displayed last year ; a good field , with quick return to the wicket . R. R. Sandi- lands : Avery good and effective bat, with taking style ; got head average , his ondrives and late cuts being particularly good; scored consistently throughout the season ; splendid field at third m a n; subsequently bowled lobs with some success . P. C. Probyn : A muchimproved batsman; ought to make a lot of runs next year; a first -class field . C. S. W. Barwell : Is a good bat, with fine , free style , his off -driving being very clean and good, and his cutting neat ; punishes loose balls grandly ; has kept wicket with some success . A. M. Balfour : Bats in very pretty style , but through nervousness failed to score as muchas he ought; good slow bowler, with break fromoff , very steady . *H. Berens : Drives very hard and clean ; never lets off a leg ball ; smart field . A. H. Harrison : Bestbat in the team, combining steady defence with great punishing powers, his off -driving being especially good ; experienced very hard luck ; a safe field . *H. B. Tritton : Improved in batting very much, having no lack of confidence ; puzzling bowler , with break from leg . H. B.
