Whitwell (Captain ) : Agoodcricketer at all points ; as a bowler he is fast , with a high delivery , good length , and straight ; a good bat, being able to drive and hit to the off well ; a splendid field at mid-off ; madea good captain this season , and kept the players well together ; wasnot able to play in the last three matches. J. F. Whitwell : A useful all -round player ; a goodbat, with plenty of defence , butdoes not make enoughuse of his height and strength , which makes his play rather tameto watch; a useful bowler ; good field anywhere; captain next year. *P. Castle : Has greatly disappointed us, but still is a better bat than his average would lead one to suppose ; is too fond of attempting strokes before he has at all settled down, which usually lead to his downfall ; useful change bowler, with break-back; good field and catch . *C. B. Marriott : Apoor bat, with a style of his own, but sometimes makes runs when the rest fail ; a useful slow bowler, with high delivery , keeping a good length on the off -side ; a moderate field . *C. H . Hunter: A nuncertain bat to start with, but hitting clean andhard all round whenhe has had a few overs ; has several times saved his side by making runs just whenthey were wanted; at the beginning of the season kept wicket exceedingly well ,but towards the end showed a marked falling off . *H.G. Clegg : Auseful bat , hitting hard all round , and is very apt to throw away his wicket b ysomedreadful stroke whenhe first goes in ; a good out-field and a safe catch . *G. McGregor: The first to get his colours this year ; he has in every way shownhimself worthy of the choice ; has been by far the most consistent bat in the eleven ; hits very well on the on-side ,but is too fond of trying to place balls to square -leg, which has several times lost him his wicket ; a safe field at cover , at times brilliant ; with practice might become a good wicket -keep. A. O. Joy: Avery useful memberof the team; has scored well all through the season , although his runs have been made somewhat luckily ; a good field at point , some of his catches at the beginning of the year especially being brilliant . P. C. Hemmingway: Avery pretty bat, his playing off his legs being especially taking , cuts well ; a fair ground field , but by no means a safe catch ; we ex- pect great things of him and McGregor next year . *E. S. Winter : A good bat, having improved very much, hits well on the off ; a good field and catch . C. H .Harding: A useful fast bowler, with break-back, but as a rule is rather short ; amoderate bat ; fair field . 1 2
