Ash(Capt.) : Hits strongly to all parts of the field , scoring rapidly whenset , without muchdefence ; a smart and active field (cover -point ) ; as captain has been patient and energetic . R. C. Saville : Asomewhatuncertain bat, showing at times very pretty cricket : drives well , but is not quiet enough on his feet or with his bat ; a fairly successful right- arm slow bowler ; a careful though not dashing field (Capt. for 1887). F. Keysell : Apatient bat, plays well , with awkwardstyle at straight bowling ; has avery weak off -stroke ; a useful change bowler , with low delivery ; a willing , butslow and somewhatclumsy field . A. K. Brook : Hasbeen unsuccessful with the bat, owing to a tendency to pull andget in front of his wicket ; can hit to leg ; a fairly safe , though not very smart, field . *F. M. Aston : Hits very hard , with a crooked bat, and has been a very useful scorer ; has bowled with success at times , but is uncertain ; a brilliant and generally safe field . *F. Griffin : A useful bat, playing hard at times , but not to be depended upon; a poor field . W. H. Foster : A stiff bat, with no nervousness , and can hit ; can bowl a little ; apoor field .G .R. Wood: Apromising bat , with excellent style ,but plays back too little ; fields carefully , anddoes notmakemanymistakes . S. Ferguson : Will very likely makea good bat ; a thoroughly keen and hard-working field , at times brilliant . H. Rhodes : Has a fair idea of defending his wicket, andcan hit well to leg ; an average wicket -keep. W. H. Bagshaw : Plays very stiff , but has im- proved ; a fast right -armbowler, difficult at times , but soon tires ; a good field . U P P I N G H A M S C H O O L . Captain for 1886 , W.F. Whitwell.
