Ford (Captain ) : Though not quite up to last year's form, must still be reckoned in the front rank of public school bats ; a splendid hitter , especially on the off -side , but sometimes throws away his wicket through recklessness ; a difficult bowler, especially on a slow wicket ; as a rule a really brilliant field at short slip . *J. H. Kelsey : Proveda most consistent scorer , and by diligent practice became a really fine bat ; defence and patience admirable , and cuts brilliantly ; useful fast bowler ; safe , but not showy field . *A. Jardine : Hits very hard, and with more patience would be a great run-getter . First -rate field in the country, and safe catch . A. Burney : Apromising youngcricketer ; plays in good style , but wants power; a puzzling bowler ; slow in the field . L. C. H. Palairet : Ought to make a good batsman, playing forward straight , and in good style ; back play wants practice ; safe , though slow field . W. Agar : Lost his last year's defence entirely ; took to hit- ting, at whichhe was not very successful ; improved in fielding towards the end of the year. P. R. Farrant (Captain for 1887 ) : Most successful school bowler ; very straight , and on his day almost unplayable ; hard-working and, as a rule , brilliant field ; uncertain bat . *C. Pochin : A plucky player , but too small to be very effective ; possesses good style and patience ; fair field at point . W. Fernie : Didnot come up to the expectations formed of him; batted freely at times , andwas moderately useful behind the sticks . * H. Flower : Still a good field at cover -point , though not quite so accurate as last year ; improved as a bat. *B. N. Kellett : Fair fast bowler, with nice easy action ; stiff bat ; s m a r tb u tuncertainfield . R O S S A L LS C H O O L . Captain for 1886 , A. G. Bather. R e s u l t so f M a t c h e s .
