Head: Captained the eleven with great judgment and success , though he had considerable difficulties to contend with ; he is a first -rate bat, with strong defence , and drives on the off side , and cuts brilliantly ; a straight and useful bowler, and a good field . *L. E. G. Abney: Is a steady , medium-pace bowler, and gets some work on the ball ; hardly fielded to his ownbowling as smartly as he might; bats in a strange style , but sometimes with success . H. S. Schwann: Is a very painstaking bat, with good defence , but needs more power; he was useful as a change bowler, and fields steadily . K.F. Crawford : Wasvery useful to the eleven , from his great steadiness and patience ; an excellent bat to go in first , as he has strong defence , and plays in thoroughly good style ; fields well . *J. T. Bosanquet : The best bowler in the eleven (slow left -hand), and difficult to play whenthe wicket helps h i mat all ; a fair field , and moderatebat. L. G. Thomas: W a shardly as suc- cessful as he promised to be at first ; hits well, but lacks defence at present ; he is an erratic fast bowler, whoalmost always gets a wicket whenfirst put on, and a fine field far out . E. Smith : Is a promising cricketer all round ; hebats in good style , with plenty of power ; bowled with considerable success on several occasions , andfields well at point . D. Forde : The only left -handedbat in the eleven , and a good one ; plays a steady game, and keeps his bat very straight ; bowls occa- sionally , but is rather erratic . W .E. Burton : Got into the eleven as wicket- keeper , and was fairly successful ; madegreat improvement in batting , and plays forward well , but has to learn the secret of back play. *F. Borwick : Is a moderate bat, but a brilliant and most hard-working field ; he saved manyruns in every innings . H. H. Taylor : Promises to be a good cricketer ; bats steadily and in good style ; he should try to be rather more active in the field . E T O NC O L L E G E . Captain for 1886 , H. J. Mordaunt.
