Heaven (1886) : Played some very useful innings ; has very good driving powers , and a very good stroke on the on side , but is weak in his back play; apt to play tamely to slow bowling ; rather slow in the field . W. M. Brown (1886) : Much improved during the term; has good forward play, coming hard on to the ball onthe off , and plays well when set , but sometimes appears cramped and tame in his play ; safe catch and good field in the country . C. H. Pitts (1885 ) : A very useful steady bat ; has a strong defence , principally by forward play , watching the ball carefully , and keeping command over it in spite of his de- ficiency in height ; cuts well , but has little hitting power; has proved himself very useful to go in first ; plays up well at a pinch ; good field , and moderate wicket-keeper. *A. R. Holdship (1886 ) : Apromising bat, especially strong on the off side , having very good wrist play ; has often lost his wicket by trying to pull a straight ball , a fault which he must correct in order to become a really goodbat ; has, good powers of defence , and can get runs fast ; a good field at cover, with a good return ; bowls mediumpace with leg break, but has not suf- ficient commandof the pitch . *P.
