Carter (Captain ) : Has become a good bat, with capital defence ; will get lots of runs next year if he will only hit more freely ; unfortunately for his XI., his bowling , which promised to be especially good , failed him entirely . V. S. Menzies : Wasnot so good a bat as in 1885 , though he played one or two first -rate innings ; has come on greatly as aslow bowler ; and after his improved form in the holidays , we hope great things of him in 1887. A. P. Crawley : Agood bat, with nice , free style ; can drive very finely , but is too inclined to hit recklessly at anything onthe leg side ;
