Gillson (Capt.) : Ascaptain , always worked his hardest , but was seldom able to play; good medium-paced bowler : as a bats- m a n, not so good; energetic field . L. G. B. J. Ford (Hon. Sec.) : Perhaps the mostuseful memberof the team; scored consistently in a vigorous style , though at times wanting in defence , and proved very destructive as a bowler, being faster and even more eccentric than last year . P. Humphry: Afine bat, hitting very clean and far, but apt to be shaky at first ; sure field ; was disabled for most of the season . R. H. Hay- Chapman : Played several meritorious innings , and showed good form throughout ; very erratic bowler, and a moderate field . W .Marshall: Played seldom , alleging great pressure of business ; a smart field , with brisk return ; bats in taking style , but must learn not to stoop . J. C. Ingle : A dangerous batsman whenset , but generally obstructs with his leg first ; good at cover-point. T. W. Little : Scarcely as successful a bat as last year; cultivates defence , but keeps his bat not rigidly straight ; fields well , and is always cheerful . A. H. Studd : Somewhatout of form this year in batting ; bowls over and under-hand with equal absence of merit . J. F. W. Little : A batsmanof diminutive size , but can hit freely ; sometimes bowls a lob with un- accountable success ; workshardin the field . C. H . Evan- Thomas: O nhis day bowls exceedingly well , fast over-hand, with judicious yorkers ; bats in good form, butdoes not often comeoff . W .A . Lewis : Failed to get m a n yruns, being often baffled by a long -hop ; kept wicket , and often stumped smartly . W . G . Headlam: Promising and difficult slow bowler ; does not bat or field .
