Bainbridge (Eton) , Captain : Filled his position with muchsuccess ; batted capitally all through the season , and worked hard in the field . C. D. Buxton (Harrow) : Much improved in his bat- ting, havingbecomem u c hstronger in hitting ; capital field , and fair change bowler. A. W. Dorman (Dulwich) : Good left -handed bowler, with consider- able spin ; good field , particularly at short -slip ; only moderate with the bat , though showing good style . Hon. C. M. Knatchbull -Hugessen (Eton) : Did not quite comeup to expectation this year ; fair bat, good wicket -keeper , andahard- workingcricketer . G. Kemp(Shrewsbury) : Played some capital innings for the University ; bats in admirable style ; goodfield. F. Marchant (Eton) : Every nowandthen, whenleast expected , plays a magnificent innings ; rather a poor beginner , but whenset a dangerous batsman; beautiful field and thrower. L. Orford (Uppingham) : Good wicket -keeper , with a very taking style ; will probably improve as a bat . C. W. Rock (Australia ) : Very straight , reliable bowler, with a lot of spin , and most difficult on a sticky wicket ; good catch , particularly at short -slip ; very steady bat, and altogether a most useful cricketer , being quite undisturbed by any bad luck, and utterly nerveless . F. Thomas (Eton) : Muchimproved as a bat since Eton; will probably become first - class in that respect ; capital field , particularly at point . C. Toppin : Bowled well all through the year , though unlucky at Lord's ; bats fairly ; good field . J. A. Turner (Uppingham) : Played one magnificent innings of 174, but otherwise was not so successful ; beautiful field anywhere, and a fair change b o w l e r. C L A R EC O L L E G E , C A M B R I D G E .
