YORKSHIRE'S record last season wasnot of a kind to give unlimited satisfac- tion to the executive of the county club . Out of sixteen important fixtures in whichthe eleven figured , only four resulted favourably , and of these two were against Derbyshire , whose representatives were not able to beat one of the leading counties in 1886. In some respects the Yorkshiremen were singularly unfortunate . It was thought advisable to leave Peate, who had been one of their chief mainstays as a bowler for someyears , out of the team, and F. Lee, w h ohadproved remarkably successful as a bat in 1885 , was so muchout of form that his services hadalso to be dispensed with . Hunter, the wicket -keeper , too , didnotgive complete satisfaction , and other candidates for the position were tried during the year. Ulyett showed a marked falling off as a batsman, and, indeed , the uncertainty of the batting was the great weakness of the Yorkshire eleven last year. Hall batted consistently well throughout the season , as did the H o n. M. B. Hawke, but the most noticeable feature of the summer wasthe remarkable bowling of the veteran T o mEmmett. Altogether he took ninety -six wickets at an average cost of eleven runs an extraordinary record for a cricketer forty -four years of age. Resultsof M a t c h e s.
