Lucas and Newham ,, were obviously at agreat disadvantage against such formidable opponents . fight , thanks in a great measure to the good all-round cricket of a whilom memberof the Notts County Eleven , G. Bean. The wicket was never in a con- dition favourable for heavy scoring , andthe highest run-getter in the matchwas Scotton , who made 70 runs for once out. H. Harris and F. Shacklock , who played for Derbyshire in 1884 and 1885 , made their first appearance in inter- countymatches for Notts .
