Though they lost half their wickets for 59 runs , the tail played up so well that they were able after all to claim a very respectable total of 209. The bowling of Watsonand Barlow proved too goodwhen Essexwent in a second time, and only four batsmen got double figures , the highest of the quartette , Mr. F. P. Francis , with 31. Lancashire had 93 to get to win, andobtained them for the loss of two wickets , Robinson hitting particularly wellfor his 51 not out. Lancashire wonby eight wickets .
