8 8 LILLYWHITE'SCRICKETERS' A N N U A L. L A N C A S H I R E . OFFICERS FOR 1886.-President , Sir Humphreyde Trafford , Bart. Committee , A. N. Hornby, W . E. Openshaw, C. G. Hulton, E. B. Rowley, E. Challen- der, R. Walker, S. R. Platt , A. G. Steel , S. Field , R. Gorton, A. Appleby, G. Walsh, E. Roper, A. F. Pope, Ernest Leese , and O. P. Lancashire . Hon. Secretary , S. H. Swire. Hon. Treasurer , J. McLaren. Assistant Secretary and Collector , F. Reynolds, 26, Barton Arcade, Manchester . LANCASHIRE'Sbest eleven should include several amateurs, and Lancashire cricket consequently suffered considerably on occasions from the inability of m a n yof its best unpaid players to assist . Mr. A. G. Steel only took part in three matches , and then his all -round cricket was of such great use as to make his frequent absence the more felt . Mr. Kemp, of Cambridge, figured in but one fixture , and other leading amateurs , notably Mr. Royle, were rarely seen in the county eleven . Underthe circumstances , therefore , Lancashire's record for last year was certainly an honourable one . Of fourteen important engagements five werew o n, and the same numberlost . Mr. Hornby's batting showed no decrease of vigour ; on the contrary , his hitting throughout was as brilliant as of old, and his cricket worthy of his younger days. Barlowwas not in his best formwith the bat, but still his all -round cricket was as valuable as ever . Briggs , though outof form in batting early in the year, showed, on the whole, to great ad- vantage in every department, andhis bowling at times wasof the greatest service . The veteran Watsonbowled with remarkable success , as did Barlow, and this pair with Briggs represent a dangerous trio . Pilling kept wicket in brilliant style throughout, and on last year's formhe hadno superior behind the sticks . Resultsof M a t c h e s. Matches Played , 14 ; W o n, 5 ; Drawn, 4 ; Lost , 5.
