Richardson , 1, Babington Lane, Derby. ThoughDerbyshire was almost as fortunate as it had been unfortunate in the previous year in the matter of the toss , the results of the season were only atrifle more satisfactory . A s a matter of fact the Countyeleven wononly one of the nine important matches in which they were engaged. That victory , though , was one of which they have just reason to be proud They defeated Lancashire at Manchester after having all the worst of the early part of the game, andindeed their success , after following onin a minority of 161 runs, was oneof the best performances of the year. In all probabilty , too, hadthe game beenprolonged for another half hour they would also have beaten Yorkshire at Derby. Their play on these two occasions does muchto redeem their failures otherwise , although to their reverses byleading Counties must be added one at thehandsof Essex. Mr.Eadieproveda useful addition to thebatting of the team, and with more practice he should be of great service . All round, the cricket showed a decided improvement, though still unreliable . The bowling wasthe weakest point , and it is difficult to see howMr. A. H. Cochrane, the Oxonian, though not up to his Repton School form last year, could be left out o ftheeleven.
