Steadybat; sounddefence ; fair field . W E L C H, F. C. B. Goodbat and out-field . W E L C H, T. H. G. Capital bat, but unfortunate as to umpire's decisions this season ; very fine field anywhere. W E S T, W. A. J. Very fast bowler, but erratic ; dangerous when on the spot ; requires decision in batting , and should take more trouble in the field . S U R R E Y . B O W D E N, M. P. A very good bat, but was not seen to advantage last season ; plays very straight , and can hit whenwanted ; a very good field , but rather too fond of trusting to onehandinstead of using both. B U S H, F. W. A useful all -round cricketer ; bowls round-arm slow, and is a useful change ; a good bat, but fell far short of expectations so far as his Countycricket was concerned ; wantsto be a little quicker in the field . CATTLEY, S. W. (Eton). Has good defence ; showed a great advance in his fielding , which was very smart ; did not play last year. DIVER, E. J. Avery fine bat, having great powers of wrist , which he uses to the best advantage ; was not in so good form as in 1884 ; a good field anywhere. G A M E, W. H. (Sherborne and Oxford). A batsman with a style of his own, but hits hard, and is very dangerous if allowed to get set ; a fine long- field , with a sharp throw in ; plays little first -class cricket now. H O R N E R, C. E. (Cheltenham and Oxford). A very useful fast round-arm bowler ; moderate bat and field ; wasof great use to the County as a bowler duringthe early part of last season. LINDSAY, W. (Winchester ). Agood bat, with a pretty cut ; a splendid field , and a sure catch ; has not played in first -class cricket of late . R E A D, W. W. Oneof the very best batsmen of the day ; plays very straight , andhits all round with great freedom ; played brilliant cricket throughout the summer; a fine field anywhere, andcan also keep wicket . (Hon. Ivo Bligh's Australian Team, 1883). R O L L E R, W. E. (Westminster and Cambridge). Hits well all round, with im- proveddefence ; proved of service to his County during last season , being one of the best amateur cricketers in England; safe in the field . ROLLER, C. T. (Westminster). Agood bat, and likely to be of great service to his County ; a fair bowler , and good field . Only played once last season (Leicester ), and then had no opportunity , owing to wet, of showing his form. SHUTER, J. (Winchester ). A pretty bat, playing very hard , especially on the off-side; a splendid field . TROLLOPE, W. S. (Westminster). Goodbat, and at times effective fast round- a r mb o w l e r. BAINBRIDGE, H. W. (Eton and Cambridge ) and K. J. KEY (Clifton and Oxford) play for Surrey.
