Thebest amateur wicket- keeper of the day, standing well up and rarely missing a chance ; a very dangerous batsman , having defence as well as hitting powers ; unfortunately only able to play once . w a s LYTTELTON, Hon. E. (Eton and Cambridge). A fine free -hitting bat, very dangerous when well set ; a good field near the wicket ; plays little first- class cricketn o w. PEARSON, T. S. (Rugbyand Oxford) . Hasbeen most painstaking and energetic for Middlesex ; a reliable batsman, rarely failing to get runs, and never relaxes vigilance in the field ; is a thorough cricketer ; has given up first- class cricket. ROBERTSON, J. A useful fast bowler ; always accurate , and very dangerous whenthe wicket helps him at all . SCOTT, S. W. A thoroughly sound and dependable bat, also hitting well all round. Nearly always comes off for the County ; a moderate field . STODDART, A. E. A good steady hat, with a nice style ; capital field , and can b o w la little . S T U D D, G. B. (Eton and Cambridge) . A dangerous bat, hitting very freely ; a magnificent field ; in this department has no superiors . (Hon. Ivo Bligh's Australian Team, 1882-83 ). Played little last year. THORNTON, C. I. (Eton and Cambridge)). Still gives an occasional glimpse of his wonderfulhitting powers. V E R N O N, G. F. (Rugby). Hits with great vigour , and scores very fast ; very fine out-field ; with a sure pair of hands. (Hon. Ivo Bligh's Australian Team, 1882-83). W A L K E R, I. D. (Harrow). Has retired from the captaincy with his batting powers little impaired ; fine field , and good lob bowler ; good captain , and excellent judge of the game. W E B B E, A. J. (Harrowand Oxford). A batsmanwith excellent defence , and bats well , cutting very smartly ; one of the very best bats in England on a difficult wicket ; a safe field . Captain in 1885 . WILLIAMS, W . A nimproving wicket-keeper ; has done well for his first season ; canbowl fast a little , but moderate bat. O'BRIEN, T. C. (Oxford ). Plays for Middlesex . N O R F O L K . BIRKBECK, H. ( Eton) . A punishing bat, with good defence , but rather uncer- taincatch. CURRIE, F. A. (Major ), (Harrow). A most reliable bát ; splendid field in any place , with amarvellous return . Wasunable to play muchlast season . DAVIES, FAIRFAX(Norwich). First -class bat and field . JARVIS, C. J. E. (Harrow). Asplendid cricketer all round ; very safe bat ; sure field ; fast round-arm bowler ; has done great service for the County Club. JARVIS, L. K. (Harrow and Cambridge ) . Most dangerous bat if he gets set , hitting hard and well ; very fine field , with quick return . K E N N A W A Y , Rev. C. L. (Harrowand Oxford). Apretty bat, andgood field at coverpoint. TILLARD, CHARLES(Repton and Cambridge ). Good round -arm bowler , very straight ; free bat. W I C K H A M, Rev. A. J. (Marlborough and Oxford). First -class wicket-keeper in every way, taking any bowling with ease and judgment ; generally gets runs quickly . W I L S O N, C. P. (Marlborough and Cambridge). Agood all -round cricketer ; has donegood service with both bat and ball .
