Smith: Forhis age oneofthebestinthe team; battedwith great success ; good change bowler ; ought to come out strong a little later on. F. Vedon: Apowerful bat ; gets runs very fast ; fair change bowler ; good in the long field . J. W. Coppinger : Anervous bat ; good long field ; played well towards the endof the y e a r TettenhallCollege.- T H EELEVEN IN 1885.-B. H. Lees : Has been the most successful run-getter of the team with an average of 22 ; hits very hard all round, and w h e nset is dangerous ; is the captain of the team, andkeeps wicket with fair success . J. Morrison : Verygood bat, hits hard andwell on the off-side ; goodbowler and excellent in thelong-field . J. Mayall: A nice free bat, with a good style , should make a first -class bat; is also a good change bowler, and as a fieldsman excels at point . W. Forrester : Fair bat, butuncertain ; hasbowled with great success throughout the season and fields well . F .D. Snale: H a ss h o w ngreat improvementon last season's form; plays the g a m ecor- rectly , and should makean excellent bat. W. Ashton : Auseful and steady bat, sometimes coming off very creditably ; fair field , with capital return . G. Bauer : Verystiff in his batting, buthas done creditably on several occasions . L. W. Grenville : A nawkwardbut painstakingbatsman; wantsmoreconfidence ; safe catch. W . S. Lowe: Requiresm o r e energy inhis batting ; capital field at cover point , his picking up and return being very sharp . A. J. Jeffery : Bats in good style and possesses confidence ; slow in the field . A. G.Minshall : Poorbat; with more attention to pitch would makea fair bowler. TonbridgeSchool.-Matches played , 9 ; won, 3; lost , 3; drawn , 3.-ELEVEN IN 1885.-W. Rashleigh : Undoubtedly ranks with the leading school batsmen of the year, andhis average is again almost unequalled ; he has an excellent style anda most thorough defence , and, whenonce set, punishes loose bowling freely , his driving on the off-side being hard andwell kept down; as captain he was of immense value to his side , setting a good example in the field , and bowling slow with success at times . G. C. Hubbard: Bowls fast right hand, with a high delivery , and though not quite so successful this year on the dry wickets , was at times very effective ; a good bat, but rather un- lucky ; plays forward well , with considerable punishing power; a very quick and sure field anywhere. F. G. Hayward: Agood bowler, with plenty of pace andfair length ; in batting he hardly madethe improvement that was expected of him this season , though occasionally he hit hard andwell ;with moredefence would makeavery dangerous bat; fair field . H. Bryant : Fell off greatly in batting , and seemed to lose confidence ; should play forward more; a very good field and sure catch awayfromthe wickets . A. R. Barwell : Bats in a free andpretty style , but apt to take liberties with the bowling too soon ; cuts neatly , andhits well to leg ; a useful change bowler , and gets a good deal of spin on the ball ; an excellent field at point . H. A. Rudd: Has a good defence, but mustlearn to hit more; bats with great patience and very straight , but scores extremely slowly ; a good fleld . R. M.King: A promising bat ; has a good defence , and hits well on the off -side ; should be careful not to put his leg before his wicket ; a good field and sure catch . J. Story : H a sthe makingof a goodbatin h i m, butis rather stiff , anddoesnot use his wrists enough; should play forward more, and with a straighter bat; fair wicket -keeper, and stopped the fast bowling creditably . H. Le Fleming : Much improved in his batting , especially towards the end of the season ; plays very straight anddrives well , and is most successful against fast bowling ; slow and uncertain field . P. T. Baker : A fair medium- pacebowler (right hand), with a little break from the off ; likely to be useful next year ; improved as a bat, butlacks power; should learn to play back more. F. Barchard : M a y ultimately develop into a good bat, as he has a fair defence and plenty of confidence ; inclined to begin hitting too early in his innings ; might be quicker in the field , but catches w e l l.
