H. Wolsey : Verystraight bat, andthoroughly punishes any bowling ; has played several very useful innings ; very straight medium- pace bowler and good field anywhere, hardly ever missing a catch . H. W. Butler : Often threw away an innings by playing to the gallery ; possesses great hitting powers , especially to the on; can, if he likes , play on the defensive , but is too fond of putting ; useful behind the sticks . W. J. Cruikshank : Except on two occasions was disappointing ; hits very hard, but is apt to mistake a yorker; does not score enough behind the wicket, andmightmakemore use of his reach ; is a fine field anywhere, and has been knownto bowl. W. L. Knowles : The best bat in the eleven , always plays good cricket , and in the best form; his cutting is especially well-timed, and his sound defence and great patience should serve h i min goodstead in future seasons; a better bowlerthanhegets credit for. C. Woodgate : Failed to come up to the expectations formed of him; bats without vigour and with a lack of wrist play, although he possesses hitting powers of no meanorder , especially to leg ; good field to mid-off, but uncertain with a catch . E. S. Banks : Good left-h a n dbowlerwitha goodbowlingaction andlots of spin; is a goodright-handedbat with a fine free style , hitting especially hard to square -leg ; good field . J. Stuart , Hon. Sec.: A good medium-pace bowler, very straight , and keeping good length , in the absence of spin should vary his pace more; hard hitting bat, andvery safe catch . R. G. Halsted : Scores largely off inferior bowling, but hits across too much; has a very powerful off -drive ; a rough and tumble fast bowler, hard to play on a bad wicket ; uncertain field . A. C. Moreton : Owing to nervousness is not as good in practice as in theory , as a bathas good form with lots of wrist -play ; works hard in the field . J. P. Orr: A nenergetic cricketer with a good knowledge of the game; fair bat andhard-working field . G. Smith : Should makea good bat, as he plays straight and keeps the ball well down; bowls with a laboured action andrather too slow; painstaking field .
