Thompson : The best bat of the year, having an average of 25 runs ; is especially good on the off , and has plenty of hitting power; is a good field . R. A. Templer : Hasbatted very well this season , showing some good hitting power; is a very good bowler, putting a good break on either w a y. H.E. Boultbee : A nexcellent bat ; a very good long-stop . F. E. Henderson : Hasshown a wonderful improvement in both batting and fielding since last year. J. H. Portway : Hasbeen very disappointing this season , both in batting and fielding . J. L. Brown : A very patient bat ; with a few season's practice will be a splendid wicket-keeper. W Learoyd : Is a very good bowler , especially against good batsmen; can vary his pitch and paceu pto the m a r k; is a moderatebatter and a splendid fielder . V. Thompson: H a s second average for bowling ; is a good fast bowler, but cannot bear to be hit , and, conse- quently , is sometimes very erratic ; a poor bat and field . A. Gane: A poor bat; can bowl a little , and is a good catcher . H. Whincup one of the most promising batsmen. of the team; if he had more defence would be a splendid bat; and is also a careful fielder . E. A. Abbott : A fair bat and bowler, but a slovenly fielder . Ladell (4.4) : Avery painstaking and straight bat, with a verygooddefence; veryuseful to go in first ; sometimesbowls slow round-a r mas a change ; an excellent field anywhere. C. J. B. Marriott (21 ) : Undoubtedly the best bat in the eleven , possessing good driving powers ; has seldom failed to score ; a good field , though at times slack . P. Tootell (13.3) : Agoodbat, cutting very hard, but weakonthe leg side ; an excellent field at point ; bowls fast round armas a change, and has proved effective at times . C. W. H. Braun, Captain (4.6 ) : Agood bowler, being very difficult to play on his day, but was somewhat overworked from want of change bowlers ; has much improved in batting , playing with a straighter bat , and driving hard at times ; worked very hard as a captain , contributing greatly to the success of the team. W. G. Holman (8.1 ) : Wouldbe the best bat in the team, if he were not so eager to hit; is a good field, far out; bowls sometimes as a change. C. L. A. Kennett (7.4) : Thebest all-round m a nin the team; a good medium- pace bowler, with a good deal of spin ; a good and improving bat, playing with great con- fidence ; also a good field anywhere. G. H. Wilson (7.4) : Amoderate bat ; has improved greatly ; a splendid field at mid-on. C. Nordlinger (8.2) : Must get over his nervousness if heis to become agoodbat ; a good field , especially at long-stop . C. D. Lucas (4.3 ) : Agood wicket keeper , with a good deal of pluck , standing up to fast bowling very well ; a moderatebut straight bat. E. A. Brooks : A very straight bat, punishing loose bowling severely ; a good slow bowler , with a good deal of break fromthe off ; was unfortunately prevented from playing for the eleven in all matches, being in the first boat. E. N. Martin (7.8) : Amoderate bat, but is apt to hit too much; a fair slow bowler ; a wretched field , at the end of the term falling off unaccountably in this department.
