Piper bowled two wides ; Langand Orr each one; Lang six no-balls ; andChris- BedfordM o d e r nSchool. G. R. Poole (Captain ) : Is the best bat we have turned out for sometime, but has been unfortunate in the more important matches ; an excellent field ; as captain , rather too easy with his m e n. H. E. Vipan : Has made wonderful improvement upon last year's form; his defence is as strong as ever, and his cutting andleg-hitting have quite come up to the same standard . H. B. Anderson : Sustains his reputation as a bowler, and has improved in batting ; he has becomemuch m o r ereliable, seldombeing temptedto " slog." His not-out inningsof 62, withouta chance till 59, v. Bedford T o w nClub, was a fine display of defence andhitting power. G. T. M. Davies : Invaluable as a bowler, has also improved very muchinbatting ; he bowledremarkably well against Wellingboro ' GrammarSchool , on our ground, in their first innings taking eight wickets for ten runs. W. B. Nott : has but seldom figured on thelist ofbowlers this year, but has rendered substantial service to the X I. with the bat, showingvast improvement on last year's form. J. P. Harding : Is a very safe bat, giving bowlersgreat trouble with his cautious , steady play ; he does not, however, omit to pay attention to loose balls ; he possesses also a considerable amount of nerve and coolness , indispensableto thoseuponw h o mdevolvesthedutyof openingtheinnings. T. E. Hart- Smith : Hasproved an acquisition to the X I., for which he has given upboating ; he is a very hardhitter , but does not often sacrifice defence for it. R. E. H. Anderson : Attimes a little unsteady ; he has, however, rendered solid service in time of great need, when older membershave failed ; next year he will no doubt become a very strong and valuable bat. P. G. Eckford : Avery steady , straight bat, but stiff ; he has done good service in keeping up his wicket at critical times ; a useful field . E. S. L. Lovell Avery good change-bowler, and very fair bat ; a hard hitter , but not very safe . W. B. Thomson: A young and promising cricketer with good form, but at present rather nervous ; very active in thefield . B r u c eCastle. Rev. W. Almack : Medium-pace round-arm bowler with a break from leg ; destructive on his day. Mr. E. Baker : Still retains someof his former batting powers , steady and reliable ; very useful behind the wickets , and successful as an underhandbowler. Rev. Ο. Philpott : A fair bat, and quick between the wickets . Mr. J. H. Arundell : Agoodbat, possessing free style and gooddriving powers; good field , and sometimes fair change bowler. Mr. P. D. Richards : Agood and steady bowler, at times destructive ; a good field with quick return ; too eager to score to excel in batting . E. H. Robins (Capt.) : Auseful bat, having a fairly good defence , and at times exhibiting good hitting powers ; a fair bowler , but not so successful as formerly . W. Wells : A s a bat has considerably improved this year, and shows some promise for the future ; an excellent field and fair change bowler . E. O. White Aplucky and useful bat, though lacking in style ; a diligent and fairly active field . J. W. Haynes : Bats steadily and in good style , but wants strength to punish loose bowling ; somewhat slow in the field . A. Vigers : Bats in excellent style , and, with a little more freedom, should become formidable to any bowling ; a smart and active field . A. N. Garrard : H a s elementary notions of batting ; as a bowler useful on his day; a moderate field . B A T T I N G A V E R A G E S . Inns. Ts. notout. R u n s. MostinInns. Average.
