1 4 4 L I L L Y W H I T E ' SC R I C K E T E R S ' A N N U A L. R O S S A L LE L E V E NIN 1885.-*B. L. Lee-Smith: H a s m a d ean excellent Captain, displaying great judgment and knowledge of the game; a really first- class bat, with splendid hitting powers, especially on the off-side ; a most suc- cessful slow bowler, with a good pitch and puzzling break back ; a fine field and sure catch . *F. M. Wheatley : As a slow bowler has greatly disappointed us, considering the promise he showed last year ; he does not show enough persever- ance in practice , and is too muchinclined to change his action ; it is only fair to say, however, that the wickets have not suited him; greatly improved as a bat, butinclined to be too impatient ; a good field . *.J. B. Wimbush : A really good left -handed bat, rarely failing to score ; hits well all round , but especially on the off -side ; has proved very useful indeed as a mediumpace bowler ; has a nice delivery and good pitch ; an excellent wicket keep. *G. H. Knight : Has improved wonderfully as a bat ; he hits very hard, without ever taking a liberty ; as yet, however, is not very certain ; in bowling he has been very useful , especially on a hard ground , but should pay more attention to pitch ; a good field . A. G. Bather : Improved greatly as a bat towards the end of the season ; if his improvement next year is as great as it has hitherto been he should turn out a first -class batsman ; he is rather weak on the leg side , but very good on the off ; agood field and safe catch . R. F. Bidwell : A hard-hitting and very useful bat; might turn out very well if he would only have more patience ; is far too muchinclined to get reckless when once set ; he has, however, been very useful to the team , rarely failing to score ; a good long -field . J. P. Wilson : Agood and reliable bat, but he is not nearly free enough in his play ; has scored very steadily throughout the season ; an uncertain field . H. H. Marriott : Useful at times both as a bat and bowler , but his batting fell off sadly at the end of the season ; as a bowler , perhaps he has hardly had the success he deserves ; has anice delivery , with mediumpace ; a poor field . F. V. Heath : Very successful as abowler in the early part of the season ; has a nice pitch , but lacks pace and strength ; he should, however, prove very useful to the team next year ; a sharp field at point ; a poor bat. G. R. W. Thompson : Has greatly been hindered in his practice by illness ; a very painstaking bat, but he wants strength , and has far 100 muchflourish ; a quick field , but apt to get flurried . E. C. L'Estrange : A fair bat,but does not play nearly hard enough ; he has not, however, had the advantage of muchpractice during the season ; a very fine field at cover -point , andsometimes useful as a change bowler.
