Blair : Thewicket-keeper of the eleven , in which capacity he was very fairly successful , and with more practice might be decidedly good ; a weak bat. H. M. Blyth : A promising and pains- taking cricketer ; bats in neat style , but with too much flourish ; has a strong defence and can hit to leg, but does not take advantage of half volleys ; with more strength and experience should make a very good bat ; a straight , fast bowler, generally pretty well on the spot ; very useful at times . H. B. Champain : Has themakingof a good bat ; plays with confidence , and can hit well to the off ; should learn to play forward with a straight bat ; a good field . A. Glass : Worked hard as captain of an eleven madeup entirely of newmaterial , with the exception ofhimself; this accountsto a great extent for the wantof success whichattended the efforts of the eleven during the season , for though possessing some promising cricketers they had no old and experienced hands to rely upon ; is a hard -hitting batwithout muchdefence , not successful early in the season ; bowls fast with high delivery , but has little commandof pitch . E. C. Glass : The most reliable bowler in the eleven ; medium-pace , straight and good length , with some leg- break ; bats left hand, and has a stubborn defence , often staying in a long time for very few runs . *F. L. Oliver : One of the best bats in the eleven , and played some very good innings , but did not do as much as was expected of him; plays well whenset, but often shows want of confidence and resolution ; has some very good strokes , especially on the off-side , but stoops in playing forward , getting too muchunder the ball ; a good field at cover-point . *D. Plomer : Fair bat , with good defence and canhit ; plays well off his legs , but too fond of playing straight balls to leg . E. W. Richardson : Left-handslow bowler, only wanting experience to be very good ; has a very good action ; quick in the field ; poor bat. P. A. Turner : Very promising left -hand bat ; unable to play early in the season ; plays with a straight bat, andhas a very good stroke on the off -side ; a good field ; he should be a very useful mannext season . H. Ward: A very hard hitter , with little defence ; a good field , and throws in splendidly . *H. B. Wright : Rather disappointing ; sometimes shows stubborn defence , but not often successful this season ; is a very slow scorer , putting very little life and strength into his strokes ; a poor field . W.J. Lockyer : A pretty and effective bat, and for his size hits remarkably well all round. F 2
