Calcott : Prevented from playing till late in the season ; but, in spite of want of practice , showed he had not lost form. J. S. Bacon : A steady and persevering bat ; seldom failed to score . A. F. B. Church : Pretty bat, with great power on the off-side , especially in cutting . R. S. Smith : Played brilliantly at the beginning of the season , but was unlucky towards the end; good field at cover . H. V. Howell-Thomas : Straight bat, with stiff style ; good bowler in his day, but apt to get short . H . Heaton: Steady bat, apt to play late at a short ball ; good field at point . A. B. Bichnore : Played one good innings , but showed want of practice ; fast bowler,with low action ; safe catch . Coles : Slow bowler, with peculiar action . L. E. Faucus: Could bat at first , but did not come off in matches owing to nervousness . P. S. Lane : Did not come off as a bat ; good field in the country . A.Ross : Poorbat ; fast but erratic bowler, sometimes gets a great deal of work o nt h eball.
