LINCOLNELEVENIN 1885.-H. V. Doulton (Captain) : Agood sound bat, with excellent defence ; straight medium-paced bowler, andgood field any- where. E. Hockliffe : Onhis day a really fine batsman, with a very taking style ; fair change bowler, and good field . M. L. Banks : Has played some useful innings this year ; is a left -handed batsman, with good defensive powers ; moderate field , and canbowl. J. W. Cruickshank : Wasunable to play at the beginning of the season , and never got into practice ; is , however, a good bat and field . H. O. Whitby : Vide University Eleven. H. B. Walker : If he took pains, wouldbe a good bat, butat present sadly needs defensive powers ; a some- whaterratic fast bowler, and good field at point . D. F. O. Poulter : A very big hitter , with a style of his own; useful change bowler, and fair field . P. W. Taylor : W a sthroughout the season behind the wickets ; as a bat greatly improved with practice . G. C. Firth : Sure field anywhere ; fair bat . H. W. Johnson: Took great pains with his cricket , and in consequence has greatly improved ; rather uncertain in the field . F. S.
