Page (Cheltenham and W a d h a m) : Fully maintained his reputation in the University matches , in which he always connes off ; a determined bat, with a powerful stroke on the on-side , of which he is sometimes a little too fond ; a thoroughly good field , and excellent change medium-pace bowler ; places his menwell in the field ; will again captain the team in 1886. H. O. Whitby (Leamington and Lincoln ) : A fast right-handed bowler, but was not nearly so successful as in the preceding season , owing to an injury to his hand ; very moderate field . W. E. T. Bolitho (Harrowand Trinity ) : Regained his place in the Eleven , which he lost in 1884 owing to an injury to his knee ; a free bat , hitting well to the off , and a good field . E. H. Buckland (Marlborough andN e wCollege ) : A capital all-round cricketer ; has muchimproved in his batting and fielding ; a fair slow bowler , especially on a deadwicket . A. H. J. Cochrane (Repton and Hertford ) : Altogether anacqui- sition to the Eleven ; a good left -handed medium-pace bowler, as a rule coming in a lot with his arm; useful bat, hitting hard, and fields well . Bowden-Smith (Rugby) : A fair bat, but not so successful as he ought to have been ; a plucky field at mid-off . H. Chitty (Winchester ) : Hits with great freedom, and is a fair wicket -keeper and field . C. H. Dent (Harrow) : Agood and very steady slow bowler , but without being able to change his pace sufficiently ; can hit . W. H. Edgar(Winchester ) : Bats in good style , with plenty of life ; a fair bowler and a quite magnificent field at point ; Captain for 1886. H. A. Hood (Eton) : A fair bat, with a successful defence of his own; did not come off as a bowler. C. Leveson -Gower (Eton) : Avery steady , defensive bat and change bowler. C. C. Mead(Eton) : Amag- nificent bat, and consistent scorer , as his average shows ; had very fair success as a wicket -keeper and is a good field . F. G. Newbolt (Clifton ) : A free run- getting bat, but without sufficient defence ; second bowler in the eleven , and verysuccessful at slip . H.E. Pember (Harrow) : Hasa good idea of hitting , but does it too often ; would be a good bowler if he gave more attention to pitch . W. H. Spottiswoode (Eton) : Performed the duties of captain in the field with great success , and did good service with the bat ; is an excellent field anywhere. A. W. Watson : Bats well , with a good defence ; played very little .
