Haden: Unlucky as a bat ; good slow change bowler ; safe catch . H. L. White Beganseason well, but hadbad luck towards the finish ; useful change bowler . G. S. Houchen : Left-hand slow bowler, with fair leg -break ; moderate bat. C. C. Mott : Care- ful bat, always to be depended upon for runs ; a destructive medium-pace bowler ; good field . H. JOHN'S ELEVENIN 1885.-C. Toppin : See University Eleven. H. Hanmer: A certain run-getter against almost any bowling , hits hard and with judgment ; a sound field ; his bowling has not proved so serviceable as was expected . A. H. Sharman (Captain ) : Has quite come out as a bowler , and has proved on occasions of great service to the eleven ; is a sound, defensive bat, though somewhat cramped in style ; a safe field . W. Greenstock : Abatsman with plenty of style and vigour , his cutting being particularly good ; a capital field anywhere. J. S. Grenfell : Hasbeen somewhat disappointing this season , though onoccasions he has played excellent cricket ; has a neat style , and plays with a straight bat ; a good point . A.. G. Baxter : Has scored very consistently , and, indeed, hasexcellent batting qualities ; as a field he is unsafe and somewhat casual. L. W . Reed: Excepton one occasion hasscored very little ; is a slow a n ds o m e w h a tcarelessfield. S. A . Notcutt: W h e nhis first nervousnessi over plays capital cricket ; has a straight bat, and drives hard ; a sure though not brilliant field . H. Ward: Hasnot played regularly for the eleven , and has not proved of great service to his side ; bowls a fairly good length , but lacks break andspin. H. S. Ware: Ought to develop , with morepractice , into a really good bat ; has taken the wickets with very fair success . W .H.Ainger : Aslow bowler, with easy delivery and good pitch , but ought to develop more break ; hits hard, b u tis nott ob erelied o nforruns.
