C. W. Wright (Charterhouse and Trinity ) : As usual, played some splendid innings for Cambridge, but could do no good for his county ; moderate wicket -keeper , though he has plenty of pluck . H. W. Bainbridge (Eton and Trinity ) : Proved himself again a tower of strength to Cambridge ; batted with great steadiness all through the season ; capital field , and can take the wicket; captain 1886. P. J. de Paravicini (Eton and Trinity ) : Owing to a in ton andfrinity ) badkowe could not do much this year ; J. A . T u r n e r: Splendid field , and much improved in his batting ; fair change bowler. F. Marchant(Eton and Trinity ) : Goodfield and thrower ; was rather unsuccessful in batting . C. A. Smith (Charterhouse and St. John's ) : Good right -hand fast bowler ; did not play for Cambridge as often as might have been wished, owing to business arrangements . G. Kemp(Shrewsbury and Trinity ) : Bats in beautiful style , and very useful v. Oxford at Lord's : good field . C. W. Rock (Australia and Clare ) : Verystraight slow round-armbowler, with considerable spin; sure catch and steady batsman; a capital all-round man. C. D. Buxton (Harrow and Trinity ) : Plays in fine style , and likely to improve ; a very good field and most useful change bowler, and takes a lot of pains . C. Lownds (Captain ) : Probably the best college bat in the University ; was unfortunately unable to play in trial matches ; anexcellent bat, with great hitting powers ; a splendid field , and good left -hand bowler. H.E. Caldecott (Hon. Sec.): Wasunable to play in manymatches : scores veryfast against loose bowling ; can field if he chooses ; a poor bowler . T. W. E.Moreton : Veryneat bat and field . F. E. Saunders : Steady bat,though rather stiff , has a good stroke to the off ; can wicket-keep. A. E. Shaw: Poor bat ; at times a destructive bowler. F. Colclough : One of the best bats in the team, especially at the beginning of the season ; very pretty on the off ; has fallen off quite unaccountably in his fielding this year. T. Lindley : Wasfrequently tried for the 'Varsity as a bowler , but rarely came off for his college ; as a bat , has strong powers of defence . A. E. Hubbard; Certainly the second best m a nin the team ; an excellent all -round bat, and very good field ; has bowled. H. G. Mitchell . A good, left -hand bat ; has been unfortunate , or would be much higher in the averages ; a splendid field and good fast bowler . H. G. Mosenthal : Ahitter ; capital field ; sometimes good behind the wickets . H. A. Beacall : A pretty bat, but seldom scores ; slow bowler of the team; has taken several wickets , though at times rather expensive .
