T H O U G Hthe match list carried out by the Marylebone Club in 1884 was not quite so extensive as in the previous season , it was still quite large enough to tax all the resources of the richest cricket society in the world. The fault to which w e drewattention in the last Annual the weak elevens which represented M.C.C. insomeof the moreimportantfixtures of the season-though, wasagain verycon- spicuous during the past summer. Theblame does not attach to the executive in such cases ; that we knowfull well . Still , second -rate teams , such as were placed into the field more than once in 1884, do not add to the reputation of the Club, andcertainly the membersought to co-operate heartily with the officers to ensure elevens in every way worthy of the fame of M.C.C. I nall , 121 matches were played , of which 59 were won, 28 drawn, and 34 lost . The rule deciding a one day's match on the first innings this season first became an actual law, and day matches are calculated on this system in the tables which follow .
