Australians , Spofforth and Palmer bowled unchanged throughout the match for the Aus- tralians .-On July 19 for Carlisle v. Dennistown (Glasgow), J. Buchanan took five wickets for no runs. In July, for Northamptonshire v. Essex , Bowleytook 9 of 10 wickets in latter's first innings , tenth being run out.- O nJuly 26 H. Kirkman, for Barkingv. Edymion, clean bowled8 wickets for 5 runs.-On August 30 F. Cowan, for ManorPark v. Lennox, took 5 wickets ' (four of them clean bowled) in 6 balls .-O nAugust 28 Tankerville Chamber- layne , for East v. Mid-Somerset , took 5 wickets for no runs . In August at Finsbury, for the Corn Exchange v. Hon. Artillery , J. W. McEwentook alto- gether 17 wickets for six runs.-OnJune 14, for Burns' XI., Duckworth (prof.) bowled 5 wickets in 7 balls against Knowle. In a match on June 25 between Second XI.'s of Rochester and Gravesend, in latter's second innings Mr. Mead tookfour wickets in one over andthree in anotherwith successive balls - O nM a y 24 at Eggesford , R. A. W. Barfoot , for the Devon County School v. Gentlemen of Mid-Devon, bowled through the whole innings for no runs , taking 4 wickets.- O n M a y 8 Major Fellowes for Ordnance Survey v. Manteaux Noirs, took 6 wicketsfor 7 runs. Singular Incidents . O n July 2 a match took place in Worcesterbetweentwo elevens of the Blind College . Theball was a bell in a wicker -work case , so that the batsmen and fielders could be guided by the sound, and the wicket -keeper clapped his h a n d sto let theb o w l e rk n o wh e r ethe wicketswere.-O nJ u n e1 6 i nam a t c h Oneand All v. Clifton House School , at Eastbourne , T. M. Bergg , of latter , was given out hit wicket . The string in the blade of his bat became loose and got entangled with the off bail . On June 7 in a match at Beckenham, a batsman playing with some string round the blade of his bat played at a ball on his legs andstopped it. In some way, though , the string on the blade hadbecomeloose andgot mixedup in the off -bail , which it pulled off . Thebatsman had to retire as " hit wicket ."-On June 2 W. Mycroft, in a match at Marlow, sent a bail 45yards without disturbing the stumps .-On Aug. 13 Mr. T. Britten , bowling for Oatlands Park v. Broadwater, at Broadwater, sent a bail 42 yards .-On July 17 at Liverpool , Lancashire v. Surrey, four brothers Steel played for Lanca- shire . On July 22 at Nottingham, Notts v. Yorkshire , there was no extra in the two innings of Yorkshire (95 and 199).-O nAug. 15 at Nottingham, Middlesex v. Notts ,while bowling for Middlesex , Mr. I. D. Walker's hat slipped from his head, and Scotton driving the ball straight back, they come in contact , for which the batsman was adjudged five runs.-On Aug. 23, in a match at St. Heliers , Jersey , between the Cæsareans and Jersey Wanderers, a very fast ball bowled byE. Wright, for the latter , shot the middle stump back six inches leaving the bails unsupported but standing intact . -On July 8, playing for Bagshot Cub v. Bracknell , T. Rose (a very fast bowler) twice during the first innings of Bracknell bowled the wicket without removing the bails.- O nJune 24, in a match, Sefton v. Kirby Lonsdale , the wicket was hit four times (twice in one over) by the bowlers without the bails being disturbed . - I na match between Wellington v. Tiverton , played at Wellington on June 14, the first four wickets of Wellington realised 58 runs . Then the Rev. J. S. Hill took the ball . In his first over with his second , third , and fourth balls he clean bowledthree batsmen. His fifth ball hit the wicket without removing the bails , the batsman afterwards making 100 not out ; a single having been scored , he obtained a wicket with his first ball of the next over, thus taking four wickets in five balls .
